Blue Flag Criteria
Environmental Education and Information
A major element of the Blue Flag programme is education. To inform the public of the importance of our local ecosystems and the benefits of proper management. This can be done through information boards erected at the Blue Flag sites or educational activities catered to all users.
Water Quality
The Blue Flag programme requires that beaches and marinas achieve excellent bathing water quality. Blue Flag sites undergo regular water quality sampling measured against international and national standards and legislation.
Environmental Management
Dedicated management committees are set up at Blue Flag sites to conduct environmental audits of the site and its facilities. The committee is also responsible for ensuring that nearby habitats (if any) are protected and managed sustainably.
Safety and Services
Blue Flag sites are required to be safe and accessible for all ages and for people with disabilities. Lifeguards or lifesaving and first aid equipment must also be available at the Blue Flag sites. Emergency and safety measures must be in place to protect the users of the Blue Flag site
